La Valle dell’Usignolo
Region: Lazio
Company name: La Valle Dell’Usignolo Agricultural and Agritourism Company
Locality: Sermoneta (Latina)
Historical context and birth of the company
The company was purchased in the late 1800s by great-grandfather Luigi known as “Ciotto” and then by grandfather Giuseppe and grandmother Tullia.
They began with the breeding of cattle, the production of cheeses and the cultivation of olive trees when the transformation began around the 1960s. Father Giò Battista known as “Titta” and Mother Faustina replaced the breeding with orchards, vineyards and other olive groves.
In 1990 Giuseppe and his wife Stefania continued to cultivate the land with the same passion and with eco-compatible methods, thus also starting the Agritourism business.
Today with the same enthusiasm they continue to build their dreams with the wish to pass on the passion and great commitment to their children Fausta, Giò Battista and Gianmario so that, one day, they will be the ones to continue this wonderful generational adventure.
“Planting an olive tree means investing in the future”.
Giuseppe Palombo
Technical contents
The company, located in an evocative setting at the foot of the medieval Sermoneta, has 1500 olive trees, 90% of which are of the Itrana variety. Spread over a difference in height ranging from 30 to 500 meters above sea level, the olive trees guarantee the best quality of Itrana that can be produced in this wonderful area. As evidence of the perfect microclimate that exists for a production of excellent oil, there is the unmistakable scent of cut grass and green tomato that only this olive, if well worked, carries with it.
The family-run oil mill, not far from the agritourism center, uses modern technology (Alfa Laval), with cold extraction, two-phase, two-stage pressing. The extra virgin olive oil is stored in a controlled atmosphere to ensure perfect quality.
