Traldi
Region: Lazio
Company name: Olio Traldi di Boni Francesca
Locality: Vetralla (Viterbo)
Historical context and birth of the company
The oil tradition of the Traldi family was born in 1960 when Angelo Traldi – from Rome – bought the 150 hectares of the estate, in La Carrozza, in Vetralla, in the Viterbo Tuscia. This area was already appreciated by the native Etruscan and Roman populations for its natural vocation for the cultivation of the olive tree, whose oil was considered to be of great quality. The traditional olive culture continues today thanks to the tireless dedication of Angelo’s heirs: daughter Elisabetta Traldi and niece Francesca Boni, current President of the farm. In the past favored by commercial exchanges between Etruscans, Greeks and Phoenicians, the area where our estate stands, Vetralla, is rich in archaeological remains that testify to the culture of olives since the sixth century b. C Today our territory has deserved the attribution of the D.O.P. Tuscia (Protected Designation of Origin), for the high quality oil produced. The area is also interesting for a geographical and landscape point of view, as it is located just 70 km north of Rome, a few minutes from Lake Vico, half an hour from the sea and the archaeological site of Tarquinia. Furthermore, cities and towns such as Viterbo, Civita di Bagnoreggio, Calcata, Bagnaia, San Martino al Cimino completes this wonderful part of the Lazio region. The S.S. Cassia, the Cassia Veientana, the Orte Civitavecchia highway, the A1 motorway are the main and important communication routes that lead to the estate.

Francesca Boni and her mother Elisabetta Traldi, supported by a team of professionals in the sector, follow with dedication and competence all the olive groves of the Estate at every stage of their life, in full respect of nature to obtain a high quality product.
Our olive groves are constantly monitored throughout the year to ensure the integrity and healthiness of the drupes at the time of harvest. The harvest takes place in the early hours of the morning, picking up the fruits that have just begun to ripen (ripening) to maintain and preserve the nutraceutical properties unchanged. They are placed in small ventilated containers away from sources of light and heat and crushed by 18:00 of the same day according to the method of cold pressing by mechanical processes. Packaging and storage take place in rooms with optimal characteristics and environmental conditions for storing the oil. The varieties of olive trees, which have already existed in the company for a long time, are the traditional ones of the area: Frantoio, Moraiolo, Pendolino, Leccino and in particular the native Canino or Caninese cultivar. All our trees are even followed one by one in every phase of their life in order to cure and cultivate them in the best possible way respecting nature, up to the harvest, the milling of the drupes and beyond, to ensure that the oil produced keeps intact all the precious properties that nature has endowed it with.
