ORO DI RUFOLO

Region: Puglia

Company name: Azienda Agricola Ortoplant di Depalo M. & C s.s

Location: Giovinazzo – Contrada Rufolo (Bari)

Historical context and birth of the company

In the thirteenth century, Nicola Rufolo, a native of Ravello, had a splendid architectural example of a fortified farmhouse built in the immediate vicinity of Giovinazzo where “liquid gold” was produced from olives produced in Giovinazzo and neighboring towns. Today the Ortoplant company, with the Oro di Rufolo brand, is located in the district of the same name to continue the journey in this extraordinary and fascinating world of extra virgin olive oil.

“Planting a new olive tree among the secular ones means believing in olive growing”.
Michele Depalo

Technical contents

In 2012 he took his first steps in olive growing starting from the management of olive groves inherited from the families of the partners Michele Depalo, Luigi Stallone and Pantaleo Piscitelli, just over 5 hectares, with the aim of creating quality.

Oro di Rufolo, has extended production with the purchase of new olive groves (12 with more than 2,000 secular olive trees) of the Ogliarola Barese and Coratina varieties, and the launch of a latest generation company oil mill.

A modern technology which, combined with human wisdom, the quality of the raw material and respect for the territory, allows the production of extra virgin olive oil of the highest quality.

In summer 2020 Oliocentrica visited the company and its centuries-old olive groves, an unforgettable emotional experience.
